St. Joe's Emergency Dept. temporarily closed

Catholic Health

St. Joseph Campus of Sisters of Charity Hospital is temporarily closing its Emergency Department.

That was the center of all COVID-19 care in the Catholic Health System during the depths of the pandemic earlier this year.

In a written statement, the health system said the Cheektowaga facility will be handling more than half of the virus cases, but it will continue to care for patients with other health issues or ready for outpatient or elective surgery.

The health system said it is increasing its bed capacity at other hospitals to manage the surge in cases, including virus cases.

With the St. Joe's Emergency Department closed, Catholic Health is reminding people there is emergency care available at its other facilities, like Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo, Sisters Hospital in the Kensington section of Buffalo and Kenmore Mercy in Kenmore.
