Contractors discovered more radioactive material during construction work at Niagara Falls State Park in mid-September.
Two hundred tons of soil was removed Niagara Falls State Park and about 20 percent of that soil was contaminated with radioactive material.
This new discovery comes just after 1,500 tons of material was removed from the site last month, during construction for the Niagara Falls Welcome Plaza project. The project is a $70 million dollar project that includes several updates throughout the park.
Spokesperson for the state parks and recreation department says the area has been contained and there’s no threat to public safety.
