UB building gets LEED Gold rating

The University at Buffalo has another new building with the environmental rating of LEED Gold, latest in UB's push for environmental sustainability.   UB's Davis Hall houses Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering.   A nearby dorm at Greiner Hall has also received LEED Gold.

Chief Sustainability Officer Ryan McPherson said construction costs a little more but buildings operate more cheaply.

"Davis Hall which is LEED Gold certified as well as Greiner Hall which is LEED Gold certified and a number of our other construction projects in the last year that have come on line are all reaching that bar, that is to say that they are energy efficient and saving money. So, for the university we have committed to being good stewards of the taxpayer dollar as well as of our environment," said McPherson.

McPherson said student engineers are very supportive of the building design and support sustainability.

The university has also added a bank of solar panels which feed into the campus power grid.

Barbara and Jack Davis Hall is named for UB  graduate, entrepreneur and former political candidate Jack Davis and his wife who contributed to the building construction.
