The former bookkeeper of an Amherst plastic surgeon has been sentenced for embezzling.
The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Justine Smith, 52 of Buffalo, has been sentenced to 2-6 years in prison for embezzling $500,000 between January 2011 and October 2016 from the office of Dr. Samuel Shatkin.
Authorities said she was able to steal the money by falsifying business financial records.
Smith has paid back nearly $62,000, and she has been ordered to make restitution for the remaining amount.
