An inmate being held in the Erie County Holding Center in downtown Buffalo has died from injuries suffered in a fight with another inmate.

19-year old Tyshawn Ball of Buffalo has been charged with second degree murder for the beating death of an inmate at Holding Center.

Acting jail superintendent Thomas Diina said the fight between Ball and 49-year old Patrick Yale occurred in June.  Yale was treated at ECMC and died at the end of August.

"Which led to the more serious charges," said Diina.  "Inmate fights are not rare, however, an incident such as this, where the outcome is so sever, is extremely rare."

Ball was jailed on arson and assault charges for allegedly starting a fire at his family's home and  attacking his mother and sister.  Yale was being held on a parole violation.  Diina says there was no indication the inmates knew one another prior to being jailed.

The Sheriff's Investigative Services and Professional Standards unit reviewed the incident.

Ball will be arraigned Tuesday, October 9th.   If convicted, he faces a maximum of 25-years in prison.
