Missing boy's body recovered from Welland Canal

Niagara Regional Police are asking for the public's help after a boy's body was recovered from the Welland Recreational Waterway.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have been in the area of the Lincoln Street Bridge on Tuesday 5 p.m.-9 p.m.

They say the case began a Welland youth was reported missing by his family after he failed to return home the previous evening.

Police began searching in the area of the Lincoln Street Bridge - one of the last locations he was seen. The Service Underwater Search and Rescue Unit was called in to assist. The young boy was found about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. At the request of family, the identity of the youth is not being released at this time.
