Two versions of “A Christmas Carol,” one with Mike Randall at the Sheridan-Parkside Community Center Theatre and one (32 years running!) at the Alleyway, continue as does “Miracle on South Division Street” by “Over the Tavern” playwright Tom Dudzick at the Roycroft Pavilion in East Aurora and “Jerry’s Girls” presented by O’Connell and Company at the Park School in Snyder. Nothing says Christmas like an extraterrestrial or two and “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” is up at the Grange Theatre in Hamburg. For a truly different venue, however, you can’t beat Forest Lawn Cemetery, where a number of Buffalo’s notable “permanent residents” come alive in “It WAS a Wonderful Life” which runs through January 5.
Meanwhile, in downtown Buffalo, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” is at the New Phoenix Theatre, “The Guns of Christmas” is an anti-war play offered by Subversive Theatre in the Manny Fried Playhouse, and “Ophelia Thinks Harder” is at ART in the Box on Linwood while “The Night Before Christmas” is not a re-telling of the famous poem, but a story of Mrs. Claus who travels to England during the WWII Blitz of London.
“Santa Claus Is Coming Out” at Main Street Cabaret and “The Santaland Diaries” continue through December 20.
