Songwriter Allen Toussaint's wide appeal, from the Pointer Sisters to the Grateful Dead

Facebook: Allen Toussaint page

The songs of Allen Toussaint have been some of the biggest hits in American music since the 1960s.

Toussaint has written tunes covered by artists from Al Hirt, which "Java" in 1964, to Lee Dorsey's "Workin' in a Coal Mine," the Pointer Sisters' "Yes We Can" in the 70's.  Bands from the Grateful Dead to Three Dog Night and Devo have covered his songs.
