Theater critic Anthony Chase joins WBFO's Gabe DiMaio with a review of "The Trojan Women," now playing through April 19 at Theaterloft. It's a presentation of Buffalo Public Theatre in association with Ujima Company. The Euripides work, translated by Nicholas Rudall, presents a bleak and agonizing portrait of war’s brutality inspired by a barbaric act of retribution committed on the Isle of Melos during the war between Athens and Sparta.
Tony also previews "Blanche Survives Katrina in a FEMA Trailer Named Desire." It's a production of Buffalo United Artists and stars Jimmy Janowski. Blanche DuBois has neither aged nor left New Orleans. She was there when Katrina hit; she was sent to the Superdome; she was evacuated to Shreveport and entangled in the heartless bureaucracy of FEMA. It runs Saturdays and Sundays from April 5 through 27 at the Main Street Cabaret at 672 Main Street.
Tony also looks ahead to "A View from the Bridge," by the Subversive Theatre Collective, which opens April 4 and continues through May 3 at the Manny Fried Playhouse, 255 Great Arrow Avenue.
