Art Blitz coming to Elmwood Avenue

A public art initiative to beautify drab infrastructure is coming to Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo.

Alex Cornwell, president of Community Canvases, says the "art blitz" from Forest Avenue to North Street starts Saturday. Cornwell says the project will employ about a dozen artists - who will be transforming traffic signal boxes into works of art that represent the Elmwood Village.

"These boxes are usually the site of graffiti," Cornwell said.  "It's great to see the radiant effects they'll have on neighborhoods."

Delaware District Councilmember Michael LoCurto and the Niagara District's David Rivera are providing $7,000 from their discretionary accounts to fund the project.

Just last month Community Canvases conducted an art blitz along Tonawanda Street in Buffalo.
