A Canadian passenger train traveling from Niagara Falls, Ontario to Toronto derailed Sunday near Burlington, Ontario.

Three people, all railroad engineers, died in the derailment.   75 people were aboard the Via Rail train that was traveling from Niagara Falls to Toronto when all 6 cars left the track.

John Marginson is Via Rail's CEO.  He spoke to reporters Sunday at the scene of the train derailment.

"Three passengers severely injured.  They have been airlifted and brought to the local hospitals.  42 other passengers received minor injuries, they have been treated either at the scene or they've been brought to local hospitals for treatment.  Three locomotive engineers that were in the cab of the locomotive unfortunately all perished during the accident," said Marginson.

Via Rail said the three serious injuries included a heart attack, a broken leg and a back injury.

The cause of the derailment in under investigation.  Investigators will be examining the train's data recorder Monday.

Reports say up to 60-passengers were trapped.  A total of 75 were reportedly on board at the time of the derailment.
