Tonawanda Senecas say drug raid violated their sovereignty

Federal Authorities late Thursday afternoon conducted a drug raid on the Tonawanda Band of Senecas reservation.

Tonawanda Senecas said the action by the Drug Enforcement Agency is a violation of their sovereignty.

Agents say they seized synthetic marijunana from four native American smoke shops.  The man-made marijunana-substitute is sold under specific brand-names in packages that are labeled as not being suitable for human consumption.

Retailers say there are no state laws prohibiting the product's sale.

The Tonawanda Seneca Reservation is about a half-hour drive east of Buffalo and is not part of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
