The acting Comptroller says Erie County collected a record amount of sales tax revenue last year. Lorne Steinhart announced Monday that Erie County collected slightly more than $400-million. That figure represents a 4.5% increase over the 2010 revenue total. It is also about $14-million more than what the County expected to collect.
Officials say the retail sales were boosted by Canadian shoppers. The county said wholesale gasoline prices are also some of the factors responsible for the growth.
