The entire region is under a wind advisory until 4 o'clock Tuesday morning.
High temperatures Monday are expected to reach the upper 40s , but thunderstorms and gusty winds will spoil the area's unseasonably warm day.
Forecaster Tom Paone at the National Weather Service office in Cheektowaga said the system's strength will be initially focused to specific areas.
"The stuff in the morning will impact Lake Erie shore and the highest evaluations across the Southern Tier.
Then when the cold front moves in the afternoon and evening, areas northeast of the lakes will have the highest wind gusts," said Paone.
25 to 35 mph with occasional gusts of up to 50 mph.
Rain developing during the day will likely mix with snow Monday night as the low temperature hovers near the freezing point.
"Some tree limbs could come down, power lines could be effected. Any trees where the root systems a little bit weaker could be blown over a little bit easier," said Paone.
