The SPCA of Niagara was the scene of a protest on Saturday afternoon.
Better than two hundred animal supporters carried signs and chanted slogans outside of the facility that has been charged with cruel mistreatment of a number of animals along with allegations of unnecessary euthanizations of animals at the shelter.
Morgan Dunbar, who is the founder and the director of Animal Allies of Western New York, claims that the need for change goes beyond the SPCA of Niagara.
"We also want to promote a no-kill movement here in Niagara, where we would engage the community in foster care programs, adoptions, of course, and rehabilitation socialization programs. Just really engaging the community is key here."
Executive Director John Faso is facing the brunt of the allegations against the shelter. An investigation into the allegations is being planned and is expected to be headed by the SPCA Serving Erie County.
