Mayor Byron Brown talks with Governor Cuomo from his City Hall office

Mayor Byron Brown thanked Governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday for Albany's $1-billion commitment to Buffalo.

The Governor told Mayor Brown that the money will be used to attract new industry and create jobs in the region.

But reporters questioned if the funding would go directly to the the city or region.

The Governor said the focus will be the city, but if funding can help facilitate  project outside the city, it would be considered.

Western New York Congresswoman Kathy Hochul said the State's investment will create jobs for the people of the region.

"The Governor told me this. He said this region just has to have more confidence in itself. We need something to change the attitude that exists in Western New York, because we have such great treasures here... and recognizes that as an outsider coming in. This money is going to be a statement that we have value, we have worth," said Hochul.

Congresswoman Hochul said the grant will encourage businesses from out of state to bring jobs to the city.

"I've already been talking to some CEO's of some major corporations since I've been elected, reaching out to other parts of the country more quietly just trying to say hey I represent a great region, give us a look. Now that I can throw this incentive on it working with our economic development partners from the Empire State Development Corporation were going to put together an incredible package that's going to be very hard to say no to," said Hochul.
