Former Buffalo Sabre Matthew Barnaby was  charged with DWI early Monday morning in Clarence  and now ESPN has fired him from his job.

Erie County Sheriff's Deputies stopped the 38-year-old Barnaby's SUV in the Town of Clarence around 3:15 a.m. on Dana Marie Parkway.

Deputies said Barnaby was driving erratically and his vehicle was without a front tire. He refused a breath test after failing field sobriety testing.

Barnaby was taken into custody and after processing was released with appearance tickets for Town of Clarence court.

This is not the first time Barnaby has been arrested. Last May Amherst Police arrested him in connection with a domestic incident.

Barnaby was a hockey analyst with ESPN, but was fired Monday.  In an email sent to The Associated Press, ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz wrote the network informed Barnaby that his contract was terminated "effective immediately."

Erie County Sheriff Captain Ron Kenyan tells WBFO'S Eileen Buckley details of the Barnaby arrest. Click the above listen icon to hear the interview.
