The U.S. Postal Service is open for nominations. Donald Trump might be interested in this one, too. The Postal Service has waived its rule barring someone from being honored on a stamp until he or she has been dead for at least five years. They've invited the public to nominate Americans or American-related subjects who have, quote, made enduring contributions to the United States.
The USPS says they've received a couple of thousand nominations so far and reports Billy Graham, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Jobs, Bill Clinton and Jerry Lewis are among those who have received the most mentions. And oh yes, Lady Gaga.
They hope that putting popular, current faces on postage stamps might make more Americans eager to buy stamps and send mail in an envelope, which would be good for the suffering postal delivery business.
The postal service also says they've heard from people who suggest that the face of everyone who receives the Medal of Honor should be put on a stamp. I'd buy those. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
