Springville man charged with beating his baby girl

A 23-year-old Sprinvgville man has been charged in the assault of his 11-month old daughter.

Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard says Antuan Jordan was arrested and charged on three felony and two  misdemeanor charges.

The first incident happened earlier this month when the baby was  brought to Women and Children’s  Hospital in Buffalo suffering from an apparent head injury that caused hemorrhaging.

According to the Sheriff's Department, the father denied hitting the child and the baby was released to her parents pending the outcome of  toxicology tests performed on the infant.

But two weeks later, the baby was re-admitted to Women and Children’s Hospital for new injuries she suffered including being hit so hard in the right eye that she suffered another hemorrhage.

The injury created a possibility of visual impairment or even blindness.  The District Attorney conferred with a doctor regarding the baby’s injuries.

Senior Detective James Hatch interviewed Jordan who initially denied hitting his daughter and even tried blaming his 21 month old son for his sister’s injuries.

Despite his denials, he was arrested and charged.  Jordan is unemployed and is from North Carolina.  He followed his girlfriend and their children to this area after she left him in North Carolina where he had assaulted and choked her.

The couple got back together and Jordan was watching their children in their East Main Street apartment in Springville while his girlfriend worked.

Jordan was arraigned on the charges and was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center on $75,000 bail after being arraigned Tuesday in front of Judge Reagan in Springville Town Court.
