Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown yesterday announced a job fair at the Buffalo Museum of Science that is coming up on Thursday.
The Mayor says over 12,000 jobs opportunities are available. Local employers like ECMC and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus will be on hand to to answer candidates' questions.
Mayor Brown encouraged city residents to come out with optimism and a smile.
"We're asking people to come dressed like they would for an interview, to bring multiple copies of their resume, and to be prepared to put their best foot forward when they see these employers," said Mayor Brown.
"My staff and I have reached out to some great employers in our community who have told us that they are looking for employees and that they have jobs available right now. We have identified over 1200 jobs that are available in this community for job seekers," said Mayor Brown.
The city's unemployment rate remains below the national average at 7.3%, but unemployment in the local African American community stands at nearly 24%.
The job fair will be held Thursday, November 1oth from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The Mayor says he expects a large turnout given the quantity of jobs up for grabs.
Employers who will participate will mostly be seeking entry to mid-level employees. Some of the participating companies include M & T Bank, ECMC, the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Embassy Suites, and Statler City.
