Amherst, NY – A Williamsville North High School student has been suspended for an incident that involved the harassment that targeted the sister of 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, Alyssa. More than two weeks ago, Rodemeyer committed suicide. His family says he was bullied for his sexuality.
Last weekend, at homecoming festivities, Rodemeyer's older sister claimed she was harassed by several students involved with past bullying of her brother.
Williamsville Schools District Superintendent Scott Martzloff said the student has been suspended for the September 22nd incident. Martzloff recorded a video statement that is posted on the school district's Website.
Amherst Police told WBFO News they continue to investigate the reported bullying of Rodemeyer prior to his death. Police are considering possible harassment or hate crime charges against those students that could be identified in the bullying of Rodemeyer.
Rodemeyer received hateful messages online blogs prior to his death. His family says he was also taunted by classmates in school.
Rodemeyer recorded a YouTube message where he talks about being gay and referred to pop star Lady Gaga as his idol because she accepted gays and lesbians.
