Amherst, NY – For the seventh time in the past two weeks, a vehicle has plowed into a storefront. The latest incident occurred around 2'o'clock Friday afternoon when an SUV crashed into the Dessert Deli at 716 Maple Road near North Forest in Amherst.
Amherst police said the driver, 49-year-old Malinda Frank of Williamsville, was freed from the vehicle and taken to ECMC for treatment.
Frank was charged with speeding and impaired driving by drugs. No one inside the store was injured.
Police say prior to hitting the building, the vehicle struck an unoccupied car.
The 1999 Ford Expedition caussed substantial damage to the building as a result of the crash.
Last Friday a 62-year-old female drive from Williamsville drove her car through the the Family Dollar in a strip plaza at Kensington Avenue at Eggert Road.
There has been a rash of similar crashes in the area. Two weeks ago, a Wilson couple was killed after a car smashed through the front of a restaurant on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst.
