Amherst, NY – The University at Buffalo dedicated their newly built campus living facility to former UB president, the late William Greiner Friday.
The new residence building was named Greiner Hall in memory of UB's 13th president who passed away last December.
The eco-friendly living complex was built with help from Grieners' family. The floors are made of recycled soda bottles, showers were made to conserve water and the roof is lightly coated to keep the building at a comfortable temperature.
UB President Satish Tripathi said the building will allow students to learn and grow in a sustainable environment.
"William R. Greiner Hall will be a thriving hub of student activity, and a welcoming home away from home for our students as they study, work, live and learn together," said Tripathi.
UB Vice President for University life and services Dennis Black said the building was built to take student living to a whole new level.
"It's about giving them the right environment to do what it is they came here to do to learn, to live and to study. So were certainly providing more then shelter, heat, water and food, were providing an atmosphere that allows them to grow and develop," said Black.
Black said the building is a short distance away from all the other amenities UB's North campus has to offer for students. He also noted that the building was created with career counseling and academic areas on the first floor, and housing for UB sophomores on the second floor.
