Buffalo, NY – Former Buffalo Sabres co-captain Chris Drury announced his retirement today after 12 seasons in the National Hockey League.
After being drafted by the Quebec Nordiques with the 72nd pick in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Drury went on to play 892 career NHL games with four different teams. Besides the Sabres, he also skated with the Colorado Avalanche, Calgary Flames and New York Rangers, winning the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2001.
Drury, a popular player while in Buffalo, left the team after the 2007 season to join the Rangers, which bought out his contract earlier this summer.
In addition to his Stanley Cup ring, Drury also holds two Olympic silver medals earned with Team USA (2002 and 2010) and a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2004 IIHF World Championship. He was also awarded the Hobey Baker Trophy as the top U.S. College Hockey player (with Boston University) in 1998.
A native of Trumbull, Connecticut, Drury is also a former Little League Baseball World Series winner, having claimed the title with his hometown teammates in 1989.
