Deadly car crash kills woman

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Police continue to investigate a crash that occurred in the early morning hours on July 4th at Delaware Avenue and Tupper Street in downtown Buffalo.

Police say 22-year-old Lanesha Cleveland was killed instantly when the minivan she was driving collided with another vehicle around 3:45 a.m. Monday.

Three other passengers were in her car at the time. They were taken to ECMC for treatment. 21-year-old Destinee McBride and 21-year-old Shania Duncan were treated and released. 28-year-old John Hayward is listed in fair condition at ECMC.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Police believe Cleveland died after being partially ejected from the minivan.

About a dozen family and friends appeared at the crash scene Sunday.

A witness to a fatal crash claims the driver responsible may have run a red-light. Police say the witness saw Cleveland swerve to avoid the the car that ignored the signal.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Buffalo Police Accident Investigation Unit. No charges have been filed at this time.
