A former lawyer convicted of DWI pled guilty to driving with suspended license

By WBFO News

Buffalo, NY – Former lawyer Anne Adams pleaded guilty Thursday in Erie County Court to a probation violation charge for driving on a suspended license.

The 46-year old woman lost both her law license and driver's license following a car accident in September 2008 while driving drunk. She then tried to cover up the crime with the help of former State Supreme Court Judge Joseph Makowski. Now a lawyer, he stepped down from the bench to avoid prosecution.

Adams pled guilty to a host of charges in February 2009. Adams was ordered to jail time, to pay fines, do community service and was on probation. The judge Thursday ordered her probation to continue through October 2013.

But she was granted court permission to reapply to the state Motor Vehicles Department for a conditional license.

The judge did order Adams to resume professional counseling and to install an ignition interlock system in any vehicle she drives should the DMV grant her a conditional license.
