Buffalo, NY – Bright orange warning signs recently posted on some Buffalo streets explain a change in street parking restrictions. The city's Department of Public Works reworked the alternative parking rules for more efficiency during the winter months.
Steve Stepniak is the city's commissioner of Public Works. For years, alternative parking signs along city streets said parking 4:00 P.M., Sunday through 4:00 P.M. Wednesday. But now the new restrictions state parking from 6:00 PM. Monday through 6:00 P.M. Thursday.
The parking plan is most critical during the winter month for city snow plows.
Stepniak said many residents were asking for the change. Hundreds and hundreds of city parking signs were removed, but the old ones are being recycled.
Stepniak admits that, initially, they received a few complaints, but some citizens called back saying the new parking plan is working and appeared to be effective.
The University District was one of the last areas in the city to get the new parking restrictions earlier this month. Along some side streets off Englewood, orange warning signs are still posted to remind residents of the new rules.
