Buffalo, NY – A quiet Saturday morning was shattered for a Grand Island family as they discovered the drowning of their infant boy.
Emergency personnel responded to the home on Old Carriage House Road to find that a one and a half year old boy had fallen into the family swimming pool. Exactly how long the boy was in the pool has not been determined.
Sergeant Greg Kent of the Erie County Sheriff's Department describes the effort to save the boy after he was pulled from the water.
Investigators are reviewing the scene and attempting to determine how the infant got into the pool area. The pool is surrounded by a fence with a closed gate. There are no clues yet as to how the boy cleared the gate.
