Buffalo, NY – Third and fourth graders from Enterprise Charter School in Buffalo attended First Niagara annual Day of Mentoring Friday.
The daylong program is part of First Niagara's Mentoring Matters program.
The Day of Mentoring's goal is to teach the students about financial literacy and how to be successful in the workplace, with hands on experience for their future careers.
First Niagara's community affairs director Helen Tederous said the goal is to offer students a glimpse at the banking and workplace world.
"What happens here are students come in, they're from the Enterprise Charter School, and they come and they learn about banking, and really about corporate life from people who are in it. They learn about financial literacy, they learn about professional conduct on the job, how to get a job, and even though they are young, 3rd and 4th graders, they do get a sense and we do make it age appropriate for them," said Tederous.
Fourth grader Chanice Wright talks about what she has learned from her time at First Niagara.
"I learned how to greet people, I learned how to be nice to other people, and I learned how to get a good job, get good grades, get education, a lot of education, yeah," said Wright.
First Niagara believes that although the students are young, it is important for them to get a sense of the many different career possibilites.
