Buffalo, NY – Ballots from voting in Tuesday's 26th Congressional race won't be certified until a court hearing on Thursday.
Republican candidate Jane Corwin put the request before a judge earlier Tuesday in anticipation of a close race.
Democratic Erie County Board of Election Commissioner Dennis Ward tells WBFO News the Corwin camp received a court order.
"It's an anticipatory court action which basically is based upon their belief that it's a close election so there we have to have certain relief to preserve everybody's rights. That's, in a nutshell, what it is," said Ward.
But Ward noted that he has no doubt that a winner would be declared Tuesday night.
The Corwin Campaign released the following statement regarding steps it has taken to ensure a fair and accurate election:
"We have anticipated a very close election from the start, and the action taken today is standard procedure and very typical in close campaigns. Our campaign's goal is to ensure that every legal vote cast is properly counted accurately and fairly."
