Cattaraugus, NY – A state of emergency continues in Little Valley in Cattaraugus County Friday.
Flash flooding early Thursday night caused major flooding to roads and residential basements.
In less than an hour, heavy rains flooded out areas of the village with up to two feet of water leaving some streets looking like rivers. The cleanup is underway.
Water has receded, but emergency crews and residents continue pumping water and cleaning up.
WBFO News talked with Little Valley Volunteer Fire Chief Dave Shinners about the situation.
He said around 5:30 p.m. Thursday one road was washed out by the flooding.
"I've never seen nothing like it," said chief Shinners.
About three inches of rain fell within a 20-minute period.
The mayor of Little Valley declared a state of emergency around 6:30 Thursday night.
"The fire department works until 1 a.m. Friday to help pump out cellars," said chief Schinners.
Some residents had to be evacuated from a trailer court area. One home in the village of Little Valley suffered structural damage. But no one was injured.
There are no estimates on damage at this time.
"Right now we don't know the extent of damage to the roads," Fourth Street in the village remains closed to traffic due to heavy damage from the flooding.
The state of emergency is expected to lifted by 5'o'clock Friday evening.
