Elmwood Village muggings reported

By WBFO Newsroom

Buffalo, NY – City leaders are considering the possibility of beefing up security in Buffalo's Elmwood Village neighborhood following two violent muggings.

One of the victims, Therese Forton-Barnes, was approached by three men while leaving an Elmwood Avenue restaurant around 10 p.m. Easter Sunday.

Forton-Barnes told police one of the men punched her, knocking her out and breaking her nose.

Fortunately a citizen saw the attack. He managed to chase down the suspect and captured him until police arrived.

Police tell the Buffalo News there was another mugging a few days prior to the one on Forton-Barnes.

Two Buffalo Common Council members, Delaware District lawmaker Michael LoCurto and Niagara District Council member David Rivera, asay they are planning to meet with police to discuss the situation.
