Buffalo, NY – More than 11,000 households remained without power Friday morning as most of Western New York was hit by a storm Thursday that brought violent winds to area.
A peak gust of 83-miles per hour was recorded in Niagara County, which was particularly hard hit. The storm was also extraordinarily aggressive in Erie, Orleans and Chautauqua Counties.
Property damage, downed trees and power outages that left tens-of-thousands of customers without service were reported throughout the day.
The storm capped a 72-hour stretch of bad weather, but Friday will see a few showers and a nice weekend for tomorrow and Sunday.
It is not coincidence as Tom Paone at the Airport Weather Station said the cliche of The calm before the storm, is actually a reality for the day that follows foul weather.
Paone said that although tangentially related to major system that hit the southeast, a different set of circumstance was responsible for the deadly string of tornadoes.
