Niagara Falls, NY – The remains of Western New York soldier will be arrived home Tuesday morning. The body of United States Army Sergeant Michael Lammerts of Amherst was returned to his family at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.
Lammerts died April 6 while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan. There has been a great deal of speculation that Lammerts was killed in response to the burning of the Quran by a Florida pastor.
The family of Lammerts will be at the Falls Base when the body arrives. The family has requested that members of the media be allowed to view the transfer of his remains from an aircraft arriving from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to Niagara Falls. The remains will be transported to the Amigone Funeral Home on Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda.
A wake will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the Amigone Funeral Home on Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda. A funeral service will be held at Amigone on Friday morning at 10'o'clock. Burial of Sergeant Lammerts will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery on Delaware Avenue and Delaware Road in Tonawnada.
