Buffalo, NY – An Amherst man is the latest to die in the war in Afghanistan. 26-year-old Army Sgt. Michael Lammerts was killed in Afghanistan Sunday. His family said they were notified of his death on Monday.

The soldier served two tours of duty in Iraq. According to reports, Lammerts was only in Afghanistan for less than a month when he was killed. Lammerts attended both North Tonawanda and Niagara Falls High School.

He leaves behind his wife Melissa and two young children, three-year-old Savannah and one-year-old Michael,Jr.
