Tonawanda, NY – Some good news for 59-laid off local General Motor employees at the Tonawanda Powertrain Plant.
GM has announced that it will resume production at the company's assembly plant in Shreveport, Louisiana and in Tonawanda on Monday.
Employees are told they should report to work at their regular start times.
A week ago, GM idled work at the Louisiana facility due to a shut down from the earthquake in Japan, and halted GM production in Japan. That forced the local layoffs.
GM continues to monitor the situation in Japan, but said the company wants to resume production at the plant to support its customers.
