Buffalo, NY – The chairman of the State Conservative Party announced his support of Jane Corwin in the race to succeed former Congressman Chris Lee in the 26th District.
Michael Long said he'll subsequently recommend Corwin's nomination to the Party's executive committee at their meeting in Albany March 14.
Long's announcement dealt a major set-back to David Bellavia, a Batavia native and decorated Iraq war veteran who was hoping for Conservative backing in the race.
Bellavia said he'll decide soon whether he'll consider an independent run. Former Congressional candidate Jack Davis, meantime, has said the he will run on an independent line and is prepared to personally invest $3-million in the race.
