Buffalo, NY – The horrific shootings in Tucson sparked a national conversation about extreme violence in America. UB English professor David Schmid will give a talk on the subject at 4:00 P.M. Friday at the Albright Knox Art Gallery.
The event sponsored by the Humanities Institute and River Run is free and open to the public.
Schmid is considered an expert on the subject. He wrote a book about serial killers in America and is currently writing another book about the history of homicide in American popular culture.
Since the Tucson murders, he has been contacted by publications all over the world looking for insight. But in a conversation with WBFO's Joyce Kryszak, Schmid said horrific violence in America is nothing new. Schmid said America's fascination with that violence dates back to the Puritans.
