Buffalo, NY – A lake effect snow warning is posted for Southern Erie, Chautauqua Counties and Cattaraugus Counties now extended until 6-Saturday morning. That includes the Cities of Jamestown, Olean, Orchard Park and Springville.
A lake effect snow warning is also posted for Niagara and Orleans Counties until Saturday at 12 Noon. That includes the cities of Niagara Falls and Medina. But this does not include Buffalo.
The snow started flying early Friday morning. Poor conditions, including blowing snow, forced Silver Creek Central and Holland Central Schools to shutdown Friday.
Dave Zaff is a forecaster at the Airport Weather Station in Cheektowaga. He said although the snow has already started to fly, we can expect that to intensify later in the day.
And metro Buffalo can expect about 1 to 2 inches of accumulation, but keep in mind that blowing snow will reduce visibility. Now in addition to the snowfall, bitterly cold temperatures will grip the region, in particular toward the end of the weekend.
