Buffalo, NY – Erie County unveiled a brand new, high-tech crime tool. County Executive Chris Collins introduced the Leica scan station. It will be used at crime scenes to take 3-D pictures and measurements.

Collins said the machine can catalogue and measure entire rooms, buildings or outdoor crime scenes preserving the information forever.

"This machine can catalogue and measure entire rooms, buildings or outdoor crime scenes to preserve that information forever," said Collins.

Collins said the county will also use this device to capture images of buildings such as schools, federal buildings and HSBC Arena if there are ever any threats made against them.

Erie County is first in the area to receive the tool from the Department of Homeland Security.
