Albany, NY – Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo says his plans for a low-key inaugural next month sends a message that now is not the time for grand and expensive celebrations.
But some political observers in Albany see Cuomo sending another message, particularly to state legislators. On The Capitol Pressroom on WBFO, Ken Lovett of the New York Daily News noted Cuomo will take the oath of office in what's known as the "War Room" of the State Capitol.
"On the ceiling is a mural of the wars New Yorkers fought in," Lovett said. "It's ironic that as he gears up to go to war with lawmakers and special interests, he's having his inauguration in the 'war room.' It's very small. There will be no lawmakers there, which is very symbolic."
Lovett says Cuomo's transition team has rejected offers from supporters to pay for a more grandiose inauguration.
