Buffalo, NY – Buffalo School Board member Vivian Evans resigned her East District seat Wednesday night.
Evans was not at last night's meeting and announced her decision in a letter read by at-large representative Florence Johnson.
The letter provided no specific reason for leaving her seat, but Evans' residency had been questioned since she accepted an out-of-state job, while claiming to still to be a local resident.
Board Member Christopher Jacobs says the announcement was merely a matter of time.
"I expected it at some point. I didn't know it was coming today, but I think it was the right time and right decision, and I wish her well," said Jacobs.
If the board does not select a successor in the next 30 days, the Mayor will fill the vacancy.
