Buffalo, NY – The snow that's been moving through the Midwest has hit the Buffalo-Niagara region.
While the metro Buffalo area should get no more than six inches at the most between Monday and Wednesday morning, areas to the north and south could see considerably more.
The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow advisory for Niagara, Orleans and Genesee County until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters said the worst areas could see three to four inches of new snow Monday and another three to five additional inches for each subsequent 12 hour period.
In the Southern Tier, a lake effect snow warning is posted for Chautauqua and western Cattaraugus through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Areas along the Chautauqua Ridge could get as much as 1-2 feet of snow over the next two days.
The Buffalo City Mission has issued a "Code Blue" for Monday evening due to the extermely cold temperatures that have set in across the region.
The City Mission will be open as a warming shelter from 8 p.m. through 8 a.m. Tuesday morning for those who normally don't seek assistance and stay at the Mission.
Code Blue is issued when the wind chill factor falls below zero.
