Lake Effect snows expected Wednesday

Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Lake Effect Snow Watch for much of Western New York for Wednesday.

It includes Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties. The Watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night.

Forecasters said lake effect snow is expected to develop late Wednesday afternoon and will intensify Wednesday night and into Thursday.

Exactly where the lake snows will persist the longest is uncertain, but at this point, forecasters said it appears some of the heaviest snow is most likely from the South towns and Southern Genesee County southward into Ski Country.

The heavier snow may move north toward the heart of metro Buffalo and Batavia or could move farther south into Chautuaqua and Cattaraugus Counties.

Snow could accumulate to more than a foot. The heavy lake snows could produce difficult driving conditions and poor visibility on the roads.
