Buffalo, NY – There's a lake effect snow warning for much of Western New York from Friday afternoon through Saturday. The forecast calls for five to nine inches in the Southtowns and up to a foot well south in ski country.
The warning continues until 7am Saturday in northern Erie and Genesee Counties, 4pm Saturday in southern Erie and Wyoming Counties and 7pm Saturday in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.
Forecasters say the lake effect snow intensified Friday evening. Accumulations in West Seneca, Orchard Park and Hamburg could be in the five to nine inch range. The northern end of the band could stretch into Buffalo and Cheektowaga, bringing some accumulation. But areas to the north will see just a trace of snow. The bands will then shift back south early Saturday and target ski country for much of the day before dissipating.
Sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40, will result in blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility for drivers.
