Formulating plans and strategies for CanalSide

Buffalo, NY – A leader of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation says they continue formulating plans and strategies for Buffalo's CanalSide project. Jordan Levy is chairman of the Harbor Development Corporation. But he remains tight lipped about any potential retailers that could be eyeing Canal Side.

Last Friday Levy joined other local leaders in reopening four historic streets running directly through Canal Side. The cobblestones streets are mixed with brand new concrete, curbs, walkways and lighting. And in just a couple of weeks they should be open to street traffic.

Meanwhile the massive vacant hole in the ground that once housed the former Memorial Auditorium continues to be reshaped. Crews are conducting shoring and footing for construction of a new building in the spring. The lower level will house a parking garage. The upper half will be mixed use restaurants and retail. Next door, the former state Donovan building is now ready for a new tenant to redevelop.

So far word has surfaced that a law firm is eyeing the former donovan building, but Levy could not confirm.

Harbor Development leaders have called Canal Side Buffalo's next great place.
