Amherst, NY – Amherst Police are investigating a threat that was found at Transit Middle School Wednesday morning.

Rita Wolff, director of communications for the Williamsville Central School District, tells WBFO News the school was evacuated and police were immediately called to the building on Transit Road.

Contents of the message were not revealed. After a search, police deemed the school safe and students were allowed to return to the building around 1'o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

No one was hurt. A letter, explaining what occurred, was sent home with students at dismissal.

The following is the letter posted on the Transit Middle School Website.

Dear Transit Parent:

Today at approximately 10:55 a.m., Transit Middle students and staff were evacuated from the building due to a bomb threat found written on a stairway railing. The Amherst Police were called immediately and the building was searched thoroughly. Students were moved outside under the supervision of the staff while the search was being conducted. At the conclusion of the search and in consultation with the police, students were allowed back into the building and the normal school schedule was resumed.

In our efforts to remain vigilant, we would ask that you reinforce with your child that all threatening statements will be taken seriously. Please know that we will continue to work with the Amherst Police to determine the origin of the threatening message and will prosecute the individual(s) responsible to the fullest extent of the law.

As always, if students feel the need to discuss any concerns, or have information they would like to report, please encourage your child to contact a school administrator or counselor.

Finally, I am very proud of the manner in which our students behaved and thank them and our staff for their cooperation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call my office at 626-8700.

Sincerely,

Jill Pellis, Principal
