Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Sabres right winger Jason Pominville suffered a concussion before fans at HSBC Arena Monday night.

Pominville was hit illegally from behind. He was motionless on the ice for several minutes and removed on a stretcher. There's no word this morning on how long he'll be out. The Sabres say Pominville took a hard hit from behind from Niklas Hjalmarsson. He slammed Pominville into the side boards. His head bounced off the glass.

Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said Pominville also suffered a cut above his eye that required 7-8 stitches.

"He's doing okay. He got sewn up, he's sitting up," said Ruff. < Hjalmarsson received a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for his actions. Coach Ruff said he believes the the League will review the play.

As Pominville was taken off the ice he was able to give a thumbs-up to fans as he left on a stretcher. There's no word on how long he'll be out.

The Sabres lost last night 4-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks.
