Buffalo, NY – An audit by the State Comptroller's office is bringing into question a twenty thousand dollar payment made to the Town of Marilla by a local farmer.
The News reports that Leon Berner claims the town demanded the money from him for a permit allowing him to accept debris from the October storm in 2006. Town officials contend that Berner offered the payment.
In either case, the audit finds the transaction inappropriate and Berner is threatening a lawsuit for return of the money.
