Buffalo, NY – A report issued by the New York Civil Liberties Union shows that nearly one hundred and forty school districts across the state use improper questions on registration forms that could be discouraging immigrant students from enrolling.
The questions regard the immigration status of the parents or of the potential student. The charge affects thirteen Western New York schools, including Williamsville Central and Sweet Home Central.
Local school officials claim that no student has been denied admittance due to immigration status.
The state Education Department is planning to issue new guidelines.
